I was very excited to be accepted as an Exhibiting Member of the Australian Society of Miniature Art (NSW) in April of the year (2007). Prior to being accepted, I had purchased the limited edition book "Miniature Art in Australia - Past and Present" which gave me an idea of the high standard required. To me, it is fascinating to see what other artists can achieve in such small areas and I read that book from cover to cover so many times. My first exhibition was the National Awards Exhibition in July, 2007 and I don't think anyone was more surprised than I was, when one of my watercolours won Best Watercolour and Best In Show. For me, I'm sure, it was beginners luck as there were so many beautiful pieces of artwork on show. I would love to see a greater public awareness of just how much work goes into a miniature painting and how amazing this art form really is. And to any artists out there who share a passion for miniature art but lack a little confidence in their own ability, I say believe in yourself and give it a go because you just never know where it might lead!
