The original meaning of the word "miniature" means painting very detailed and is not associated with size, smallness, or scale. Often it is referred to as painting “in miniature”. I have done quite a bit of research and contacted a number of experts on the subject. It has been stated that a wall sized work could be painted “in miniature”. In the past there have been a range of sizes from gigantic to handheld. All of my work is painted "in miniature". This is an article with a little more in depth information about the miniature.

Rebecca and a friend This site for furthering miniature art was developed for artists, by artists. I am listed as the creator of this site, but I certainly did not do this alone. I have had the help and support of many people to bring this site to the point that it is today – shows and societies as well as individual artists that are passionate about what they do. We are a private group of artists that simply want to see the knowledge and opportunities for miniature art and artists grow. We are also funding this project and donating our time to make it possible for others to enjoy. I encourage everyone participating to share their experiences and support each other. We are all working toward a common goal, and perhaps we can find a few friends along the way.

As an artist, I have been so fortunate to be fully supported and encouraged by everyone in my family, and the opportunity to share my work and ideas with the artists in my family. Certainly, not all artists have the ability to grow in that type of environment. However, all of us have the ability to share and band together to support each other. I sincerely hope that this website will help other artists be able to do the same. The friends that I have gained in my experiences as a miniature artist have been a true inspiration to me, in my work and my life.

Rebecca's primary goal in her work is to use her work to help the creatures she paints as well as their habitat. She participates in numerous wildlife & habitat conservation fundraising events to increase awareness & has generated thousands of dollars for wildlife & conservation through her work. She spends as much time as possible observing & experiencing the wildlife she paints: "We often take up to 5000 still photographs on a shoot. It is very important that the subject painted is studied from every available angle, as well as it's habits & preferences". Because of her interest in the biological aspects of wildlife art, her work always reflects a personal experience with the species. "For me, the research and fieldwork involved are my favorite, rain or shine. There are many times I have to drag myself back to my studio to paint, as I would much rather spend all of my time outside."

Her style & technique are primarily influenced by her artist family, Karen & Bonnie. Early on, in her efforts to develop as a painter, she studied with numerous artists working in miniature. After studying many mediums & styles of painting and sculpture, she now works primarily in watercolor in a traditional, detailed Flemish style. Rebecca's works range in size from 40" x 60" to smaller than 1" x 1".

Rebecca is a member of many miniature art societies and wildlife art societies in the United States and abroad. She shows her artwork in shows and galleries around the world. The artist has been named “Artist of the Year” by Minnesota's Ducks Unlimited and her work has been featured on conservation stamps in the US and Canada. She is also an award winning children's book illustrator.
