home - Miniature Art Show Info

Personal Information:

I am currently living in the Puget Sound area, previously from the central coast of
California. I recently had the opportunity to live in the countryside of Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy, for four short months in the fall of 2004. I am here physically, but parts of me remain in that countryside of Tuscany and in theSunday Afternoon 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" hills and cliffs of CA. When I am not in my studio, I can be found cooking in the kitchen, or in my corner reading. I am married to a supportive husband whose creative outlet is photography. I am also blessed with a creative daughter who calls Austin, TX home. Her passion is working with mosaics.

I have been painting in acrylics and colored pencil off and on since the mid 80's. Although I've always made art, it wasn't until later in my life that I had the opportunity to have classroom instruction. I attended art classes at community colleges both in Florida and California. I took art classes and studied at Crealde Art Center in Winter Park, FL, and the Maitland Art Center in Maitland, FL. I have also participated in independent study and many workshops. I believe that creating art with whatever media you choose is a lifelong learning exploration and one that I hope to continue to practice.

Miniature art is a new concept for me. In 2006 I saw a competition for a Miniature show in a small town near where I grew up on the east coast. I couldn't resist ente
La Torre (The Tower) 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"ring it. I did some research on miniature art and tried my hand at using some new colored pencils I received as a gift. I sent off two of the smallest landscapes I had ever done. My two works were not only accepted, but one even won an Honorable Mention. Since then, I have entered two more shows and have been accepted into those as well. I received second place on another of my colored pencil landscapes. I will definitely continue!

Artist Statement:

I find doing miniature work very rewarding. My work, large or small, evolves from a combination of field sketches, photographs, and the memory of a chosen setting. My goal is not to duplicate a scene, but to represent its essence. It is the spirit of the landscape, it's smells, sounds, and impressions that I want to bring forth in my work. When creating in my studio, I am able to relive the magic and serenity I felt at that time. The organic world gives me a sense of renewal and the ability to face the challenges of daily life. It is this experie
Before The Planting 2" 1/2/ x 3 1/2"nce that I hope to share with the viewer, that they too may feel the spirit of the landscape and be renewed.
